The tide is turned! Crap. I need to seriously think a lot during the weekend!
I am going to be in PG12 for final interview with the other group next week.
If I do [something] my priority will be shifted to Windows OS (somewhat) but I will be working on 3 years stuff in the future.
If I join TWC, I will be working with him side by side!
OMG. How awesome is that?!

p/s: Someone told me I am TW Tan's right hand and I can never leave. I was like.. I heard that before. Management bs can't convince me to stay now :P Not when 3 years future tech and TWC's latest achievement comes into play!
[Edit]: Nothing to do my previous post on "Excitement". I just found out about this today when I asked TWC about both his current manager (STKH) and ex-manager (the one I will have interview). Amazingly, he said his ex-manager was great :) He told me that if I join the other team, I won't be happy as it will be a repeat of F-Secure all over again (security part). But I don't know.. may be it is interesting to work on hardware security perspective than the reliance of the OS as a secure layer. F-Secure was software-security oriented, not hardware. :) |

[Edit]: Oh yeah, I was right about Marketing's call :) They're sending me chassis for Johnstown. My relationship is getting better with marketing :D :D I <3 marketing! Ask and you shall get things (-___-;;) I need to ask for another JT because someone told me he oso wants a JT!! How come no one wants to pay for it??? You think Intel's made of Gold is it?! HAHAHAHA.
Oh, my solid state drives are here (3 SSDs to be exact). And someone from Intel Korea is sending me another SSD. I think I need to stop collecting marketing samples. ARGH.

Run stress_bios.sh script on [removed] Haha. They are using my BIOS stress test shell script.
I think there are bugs in that script. Unintentionally though (I'm not evil, I am the technie one). Let's see if they catch it (um, I don't think they could..). It's okay, my manager will be able to solve it (because he's a Linux DRA winner.. Shell script? Sure, he's pro oneeee).
On unrelated news, I had permanently re-wire power supply (had to get confirmation from CY as I don't do hardware!!!) for the JT. I want a permanent solution than short-ing the cables :) (Um, maybe dangerous.. but who cares?! :))
And on work-related news: I had just set my transition period to end by the end of this month. I am wielding the power to stand up to protect my own Human Rights. Legal battle would be a mess. Trust me :)
p/s: Someone in Intel Marketing (in KL) called me -- missed the call tho. I have a haunch that it's either about the Linux support or they're sending something to me :) I have AWESOME relationship with Marketing people. They are generous people!! Next on the agenda: Get them to send me Core i7 processor. YES!!! Hahaha.

CY kept on talking about Stanley Milgram experiment; I went on wiki and found the Stanford Prison Experiment http://www.prisonexp.org/ and it was somewhat sounding too familiar:
I suggested we leave, but he refused. Through his tears, he said he could not leave because the others had labeled him a bad prisoner. Even though he was feeling sick, he wanted to go back and prove he was not a bad prisoner.
... Then, when we ended the hearings by telling prisoners to go back to their cells while we considered their requests, every prisoner obeyed, even though they could have obtained the same result by simply quitting the experiment. Why did they obey? Because they felt powerless to resist. Their sense of reality had shifted, and they no longer perceived their imprisonment as an experiment.
By the end of the study, the prisoners were disintegrated, both as a group and as individuals. There was no longer any group unity; just a bunch of isolated individuals hanging on, much like prisoners of war or hospitalized mental patients. The guards had won total control of the prison, and they commanded the blind obedience of each prisoner.
Whoa. Is someone running this experiment that I don't know about?

Can Google really do an OS?
In my opinion yes, they can do. But it will forever and ever-ly be in BETA mode. The Google's infamous lack of corporate responsibility where all their apps are still in BETA mode.
They could either be:
1) Lack of staff-retention power
How many people had Google lost these past few years?
2) Lack of real execution power
It's like boys and their sex chats and when it comes to real sex, they *just* can't perform well.
3) Lack of confidence that their product would ever be good enough
Microsoft, despite their cocky attitude by releasing a fucking buggy and insecure OS, means that they are confident enough to release it (okay, despite all the bad things about their OSes). Google on the other hands.. *sigh*. If you can't take it like a man and burn down the island (CY's words, I am borrowing it), don't ever attempt to even tell people that you're doing an OS. Because 5 years from now, people will look back and said:
"Do you remember about Chrome OS? What the hell happen to it?"
"Oh? Chrome? We're still doing it. It's in BETA still, but we're confident, before the world's last piece of ozone layer gone, we'll be releasing it like a real man".
Dude. Seriously?
If I were dating a guy like that, I'd be having sex with him, and the very next morning, I'd kick him out of the bed. That sounds so familiar, isn't it?
Boys vs Men. You need to have a real execution power to accomplish something. If you have bunch of boys running A COMPANY, you'll not be getting anything serious out of them.
If it comes to either working in Google or Microsoft, despite being a Pro-Linux Engineer, I will work in Microsoft.
But of course, right now, I am with Intel. Just don't let bunch of boys running around with "Manager" title. |

There will be a house. Roof is an energy-collecting hub of solar panels with design in mind. Energy-efficient appliances are essential. Laundry is done with optimum water conservation. I drive a bio-fueled vehicle listening to the Naked Scientist and NPR to work. Not an SUV, hopefully not. I hope to still become obsessed with ApartmentTherapy.com as I partake of the regular OCD-druggage through the furniture-arranging fest every four months or so. And most importantly: life goes on. |

Introducing the project that I had contributed a huge chunk of my life (including weekends):
Meet Johnstown (codename -- released as D945GSEJT) and this is the super sexy board which if it's a man, I'd be jumping into bed at the first sight. SUPER DUPER SULTRY AND SEXY.
So, the TME sent me the complete set of the board along with the 2GB (SODIMM) RAM, the cables and the metal backplates and everything :) That's the boxed version. You see, when I was doing the project, everything was not properly made (um, it was still under development :)). Now seeing it for real.. it just blew me away :) All I need now is going to Taiwan to buy the VESA-mountable chassis. OMG. Then, it will be perfect.
I asked the TME to send me the Solid State disk for this too. And he said yes :D
So, with all of these expensive gifts.. I thought it will be "no strings attached".
And I looked at the shipping slip:
BENCHMARKING ANALYSIS?
You know what that means... HOME. WORKING. ON WEEKENDS. FOR HIM. IT'S OKAY. BECAUSE MY LOVE CAN BE BOUGHT.
(Yes, my love IS really THAT superficial).
You see, once, there was Linux embedded driver thing for Johnstown -- that the TME asked me about.. and I did it on LF2 (because I *bought* my own LF2). Did the simulation at home on weekends and I moaned at him that "I don't have JT *hint* *hint*".
It should come with a warning "this gift, even though for your long overdue thank-you-ness for your good work on JT; this is for the future assistance I will require of you!".
I told him about my departure to PDC and he sweetly said "It doesn't matter whether you're in PDC or BDCM". And I told him, if he ever comes to Malaysia, I'll buy him "Buddha jumps over the wall" for dinner ;) Hahahaha
That's the best that I can do for such overly expensive gesture. :) |

Non-sequitur of doom: The libraries hereabout have two versions of ro3k. The really gossipy one (with delicious footnotes * and woodblock prints) consists of four volumes and, though smelly and frail-looking and dog-eared, is often on loan. The lobotomized version, although just as lengthy, consists of two [fatter] volumes and has neither footnotes nor prints (and is less mangy in appearance). I have not been able to get my paws on Volume 4 of the former, and so had to content self with the second half of Volume 2 of the latter (where everyone dies, and then n00bs Jiang Wei and Deng Ai battle it out). I hope to be luckier later today.
* Oooh footnotes. So gossipy that they become harder to fathom than the string theory. For instance, though I do recall reading about a connection between Ma Chao wearing mourning in battle and Cao Cao cutting off his beard while fleeing battle #, I can no longer recall the equations/proofs/theorems that lead to that connection. Arcane.

I am not happy with the way things are at work. I am just furious at the way the technicians were being handled. I HAD REQUESTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN to get the technicians to be put under me. I didn't get it. E does.
